Apical Data Science

Apical Crop Science LLC is an agricultural technology company that improves crop performance and sustainability through the implementation of science and technology.

Precision Methods

Our laboratory methods were developed with the singular goal of getting better results out of growing crops.  We enlisted the help of multiple PhD level scientists to refine and optimize our processes using cutting edge equipment and multiple innovations.  This approach reveals to growers new frontiers in plant and soil health management, regenerative crop production, and improved crop quality for end consumers.

Data Storage

All of the data generated by our laboratory is stored and viewable on the cloud at any time from internet accessible devices.  Growers with mobile devices can view data easily while in the field to compare visual plant symptoms to precision laboratory data.

Target Range Charts

All of the Apical reports include a Target Range Chart on the Basic Report and also a Target Range Detail, which goes into deeper detail on which nutrients are limiting the crops’ performance. Apical’s Target Range Axis Values were developed by analyzing datasets of various crops and identifying optimal levels through years of study in plant physiology, nutrient antagonism/synergism, and mineral interrelationships.

Detailed Comparison Report

Apical’s entire system was developed around testing healthy and sick crops & soils and comparing the crop performance when nutrients were applied.  We provide this amplified degree of insight into all of our reports with our Detailed Comparison Report.

The New/Old Leaves, Deep/Shallow Soils, and Source/Field Water data generated are processed and reported to include:

  • Gradients – The difference between the new/old leaves, deep/shallow soils, and source/field water
  • % Difference– The gradient expressed in terms of a relevant percentage to the crop (helps with data normalization)
  • Limiting Indicators – A graphical summary of  Immobile & Mobile Nutrients and their gradients (useful for identifying toxicities/deficiencies)
  • Graphs/Charts- Each Detailed Comparison has the data grouped into elements that are similar in ionic charge, often compete with one another, or are antagonistic to each other.
  • Calcium Ratios– Ca/Na and Ca/K are common ratios that affect plant vigor and are graphically represented to help identify salt and turgor pressure issues.

Nutrient Allocation

If one can view a crop’s total potential for nutrient intake and then assess if a particular one is taking up too much of that profile, there is an opportunity for the grower to identify rapidly which nutrient may be overabundant.

We often see hidden excesses such as Cl, S, NO3, NH4, K or specific micronutrients that are obviously taking up too much space in a plant’s vascular system.  The Nutrient Allocation Chart helps quickly identify these situations.

Build Charts

Our Database allows every grower to build many different chart types with their data to display to team members and graphically draw conclusions over time. This can be useful when running crop input trials, building crop programs, assessing product efficacy, and much more. The ability to quickly compare and draw conclusions on the data offers another subtle advantage over other crop management systems.
